A leader in the production of safety-critical transportation infrastructure products, D.S. Brown was contracted by a marine industry client to manufacture a rubber hopper seal assembly. Meeting precision tolerances as low as (+/-) 0.030 of an inch, we employed our advanced EPDM extrusion technology to manufacture this complex part. We then vulcanized the miter corners of the assembly in order to create a more durable product.

This project required that D.S. Brown create customized tooling to produce the required extrusion profile. We also had to design the tooling used to vulcanize mold the mitered corners of the assembly. It was our ability to produce this customized tooling that allowed us to successfully meet all of our client's unique product specifications. After manufacturing was complete, the parts measured precisely 168 feet in length, six inches in width, and 4.5 inches in height, with a one inch material thickness. The hopper seal weighed 8 pounds per foot and included two 90 degree bend angles placed at specified points.

Meeting all of our client's unique product specifications, D.S. Brown was able to manufacture a rubber hopper seal assembly – creating all the customized tooling necessary to produce this complex part. Combining years of expertise with our precision extrusion technology, we were able to produce and deliver the seal within a short, six week turnaround period, fulfilling our client's high expectations for service and quality.
